In 2024, Nghe An remained among the top 10 provinces and cities nationwide for foreign direct investment (FDI) attraction for the third consecutive year (2022–2024). It climbed 10 places in the cumulative FDI rankings among provinces.

The Southeast Nghe An Economic Zone attracted 20 new projects with a total registered capital of VND 19,875 billion and 20 projects with additional capital of VND 21,891 billion, amounting to a total of VND 41,766 billion, which is 208% of the annual target and 68% of the province's total registered investment capital.

FDI remained a highlight, with 15 new projects and 14 capital expansions, totaling USD 1,648 million, exceeding 235% of the target. In 2024, 16 new enterprises began operations in the zone, bringing the total to 157 active enterprises. Revenue reached VND 77,219 billion, a 30% increase from 2023. According to Mr. Le Tien Tri, Head of the Management Board, 2025 plans include approving 5–7 zoning plans for industrial and functional areas under the Southeast Nghe An Economic Zone’s master plan through 2040. Additionally, 2–4 new industrial parks covering around 900 hectares will be established. The zone aims to attract 20–25 investment projects worth VND 20,000–25,000 billion, including nearly USD 1,000 million in FDI. Budget contributions are projected at VND 3,000–3,500 billion, with 40,000 new jobs created.

The expansion proposal for the Southeast Nghe An Economic Zone is under review by the Ministry of Planning and Investment and is expected to be submitted to the Prime Minister for approval in early 2025. Once approved, the zone will span 104,270 hectares (93,320 hectares of land and 10,950 hectares of sea) across 10 districts, towns, and cities, with 30–32 industrial parks planned.
