Vietnam and South Korea agree to raise bilateral trade turnover to 150 billion USD

General Secretary, President To Lam and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol agreed to enhance and promote the Vietnam-South Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The two leaders committed to raising bilateral trade turnover to 150 billion USD by 2030.

On the afternoon of September 3rd, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, General Secretary - President To Lam had a phone conversation with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol. During the call, both leaders expressed their pleasure at holding this high-level discussion to exchange views on advancing the Vietnam-South Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and other matters of mutual interest.

President Yoon Suk Yeol extended his deep condolences over the passing of former General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and expressed confidence that under the leadership of General Secretary - President To Lam, Vietnam’s Party and State would continue to achieve significant successes, further elevating its international position and reputation.

The General Secretary - President congratulated South Korea on its recent achievements, particularly in economic recovery and strengthening supply chains. He also appreciated the rapid development of Vietnam-South Korea relations over the past 32 years, especially after both sides elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He emphasized that the Party and the State of Vietnam always value the friendly cooperation with South Korea.

Both leaders agreed to further deepen mutual understanding and political trust through continued high-level contact and exchanges across various channels, including the Party, Government, National Assembly, and people-to-people ties. They also agreed to enhance cooperation in defense and security, and to promote more substantive, effective, balanced, and sustainable economic, trade, and investment cooperation.

The two sides committed to raising bilateral trade turnover to 150 billion USD by 2030. General Secretary - President To Lam welcomed South Korean businesses to participate in Vietnam's major investment projects. President Yoon Suk Yeol emphasized that South Korea would increase imports of Vietnamese agricultural products.

Both sides agreed to promote cooperation in labor, culture, tourism, education, and people-to-people exchanges, while also paying attention to and supporting the citizens of both countries who are living, studying, and working in each other's nations.

They also concurred on strengthening cooperation on regional and international issues. General Secretary - President To Lam affirmed that Vietnam remains committed and ready to contribute positively to the peace process on the Korean Peninsula.

Regarding the South China Sea issue, both parties agreed on the importance of maintaining peace, stability, cooperation, and development, while respecting international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
