Wistron’s factories in Ha Nam will become the new component manufacturing hub for SpaceX, the company founded by billionaire Elon Musk.
The Victory II project – a high-tech electronics manufacturing plant in Ha Nam Province by Taiwan’s Wistron Group – is expected to officially begin operations in January 2025.
The project is implemented by Wistron Technology Co., Ltd. (Vietnam) with a total investment of 593.14 billion VND, equivalent to 24.5 million USD, fully funded by the parent company, Wistron Corporation, according to the project’s environmental impact assessment report.
The facility is housed in a rented factory owned by Wistron Infocomm Co., Ltd. (Vietnam), covering an area of 48,545.6 square meters at plots CN09 and CN10, Dong Van III Supporting Industrial Park Phase II, Duy Tien Town, approximately 50 kilometers from Hanoi's city center.
According to the report, the factory’s annual production includes: LCD displays of various types (3 million units); firewall devices (198,000 units); docking stations (1.03 million units); webcams (35,000 units); inventory scanners (400,000 units); VoIP phones (Internet phones); PA system equipment (1.2 million units); laptops (5.87 million units); desktop computers (374,400 units).
The project will utilize existing machinery and equipment from Wistron Infocomm Co., Ltd. (Vietnam), including three laptop motherboard production lines, three laptop assembly lines, and three SMT production lines for LCDs, webcams, docking stations, and firewall devices.
Additionally, Wistron Technology Co., Ltd. (Vietnam) will add key machinery and equipment, including two SMT production lines for LCDs, webcams, docking stations, and firewall devices, one LCD assembly line, one webcam assembly line, one docking station assembly line, and one firewall device assembly line.
According to the report, the machinery and equipment are primarily sourced from China.
Once production stabilizes, the factory is expected to employ 530 workers, including 60 foreign employees, mainly comprising executives, office staff, and technical personnel.
The project by Wistron Infocomm Co., Ltd. (Vietnam) is considered part of the SpaceX ecosystem. The factories in Ha Nam are set to become a new component production hub for SpaceX, the company founded by Elon Musk.
Before the Victory II project, Wistron increased the total investment in its Victory I project to 363.9 million USD. Also located at Dong Van III Industrial Park, Victory I primarily produces laptops, desktop computers, motherboards, and webcams. Phase 1 of the Victory I project has been operational since December 2021, while Phase 2 commenced construction in June 2023 and is expected to begin operations in April next year.
