In the first 8 months of 2024, Nam Dinh's industrial production index increased by 14.34% compared to the same period last year, marking the highest growth since 2019.
According to data from the Nam Dinh Provincial Statistics Office, industrial production in August 2024 maintained positive growth, estimated to have increased by 2.52% compared to the previous month and 14.36% compared to the same period in 2023. For the first 8 months, the overall industrial production index rose by 14.34% compared to the same period last year, marking the highest growth since 2019. The manufacturing and processing sector increased by 14.46%.
Specifically, the industrial production index for August 2024 increased by 2.52% compared to the previous month and 14.36% compared to the same period in 2023. Compared to the previous month, the mining sector decreased by 8.44%; the manufacturing and processing sector increased by 2.60%; electricity and gas production and distribution increased by 0.18%; and the water supply, waste treatment, and sewage sector decreased by 1.51%.
The industrial production index for the first 8 months of 2024 is estimated to have increased by 14.34% compared to the same period last year. Of this, the manufacturing and processing sector increased by 14.46%, contributing 14.06 percentage points to the overall increase; the electricity and gas production and distribution sector increased by 3.79%, contributing 0.09 percentage points; the water supply, waste management, and sewage treatment sector increased by 20.06%, contributing 0.29 percentage points; and the mining sector decreased by 26.33%, reducing the overall growth by 0.10 percentage points.
Several Level II industrial sectors showed an increase compared to the same period last year: Leather and related products manufacturing increased by 24.37%; fabricated metal products (except machinery and equipment) increased by 19.73%; apparel manufacturing increased by 19.02%; food processing increased by 17.16%; wood processing and the production of wood, bamboo, and rattan products (excluding furniture), along with products made from straw and woven materials, increased by 11.59%; pharmaceuticals, medicinal chemicals, and botanical products manufacturing increased by 4.01%; furniture manufacturing increased by 2.77%; and textiles increased by 1.44%.
According to the Nam Dinh Statistics Office, the construction project for the electronic manufacturing, toy production, mechanical processing, and high-tech metal treatment and coating complex, undertaken by Sinte Nam Dinh Industrial Co., Ltd. in Dong Son Commune, Nam Truc District, has completed its industrial infrastructure and is preparing to commence operations. The project covers an area of approximately 8.80 hectares, with the goal of processing around 2 million electronic products per year and producing 5 million toys annually, employing 2,000 workers. This will create jobs and make a significant contribution to the province's economic growth.
Alongside the increase in production, the consumption and inventory indexes have also shown positive trends. The consumption index for the manufacturing and processing sector in August 2024 increased by 1.65% compared to the previous month, but for the first 8 months of 2024, this index decreased by 9.61% compared to the same period last year. The inventory index for this sector is estimated to have increased by 19.92% as of August 31, 2024, compared to the same time last year.
Correspondingly, the labor utilization index for industrial manufacturing enterprises in August 2024 increased by 0.83% compared to the previous month, and over the first 8 months, this index rose by 3.49% compared to the same period last year.
