Japanese PCB manufacturer begins construction of new plant in Hoa Binh Province

Japanese printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturer Meiko Electronics held a groundbreaking ceremony on April 13 for a new plant at the Left Bank Industrial Park on the Da River in Hoa Binh Province.

The new plant will produce PCBs for peripherals, computers, home electronics, audiovisual equipment, solar panels, various microprocessors, and controllers.

The new plant will cover an area of 9.2 hectares with a total investment of $200 million (over VND4.6 trillion), which is expected to increase to $500 million when a second plant is built in Hoa Binh Province. Production is expected to start in the second quarter of this year and will employ 3,000 workers.

Meiko is a leading manufacturer and assembler of printed circuit boards, with six plants in Japan and two in China. In Vietnam, the company built a factory in Thach That Industrial Park (Hanoi) in 2006. At that time, the factory was one of the 10 largest foreign direct investment projects and the largest electronic production project. To date, the company has three manufacturing plants in Vietnam with a total investment of $500 million and creating more than 7,000 jobs.
