MG plans to build automobile factory in Vietnam

According to Mr. Thang, the potential of the Vietnamese automobile market is huge. With a large population, outstanding economic growth, and the transition from motorcycles to cars becoming increasingly popular, Vietnam is identified as an important strategic market in the international development campaign of Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC Motor) and SAIC Motor Vietnam Co., Ltd. (SMV - a subsidiary of SAIC Motor).

Mr. Thang also said that at the time of launching SAIC Motor Vietnam in the Vietnamese market, as the world's leading automobile manufacturer, SAIC Motor is willing to invest in factories suitable for various markets.

“If the market is large enough, we will invest in a factory in Vietnam. This is also a commitment of the company to long-term development in the Vietnamese market," he said.

MG is currently distributing and selling 4 product lines using both gasoline and electric engines. Specifically, MG HS (price from 699 million VND), RX5 (price from 739 million VND), MG ZS (price from 538 million VND), MG5 (price from 532 million VND), and the pure electric car MG4 EV (price from 828 million VND).

Mr. Do Tien Dung, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hang Xanh Motors Services Joint Stock Company (Haxaco), estimated that in Q2/2024, the MG automobile distribution segment will contribute 90% of Haxaco's profit.

Sharing about the plan to sell the pure electric car MG4 EV, Mr. Thang said: "The launch of electric car products shows our long-term commitment to the Vietnamese market, that MG will bring all the latest car models and development trends in the world to Vietnamese customers as soon as possible."

“For customer goals, MG has not set too high sales targets for this MG4 EV electric car model. Maybe at the end of this year, we will continue to introduce another new electric car model or a new gasoline-electric car model to the market," Mr. Thang said.

Since the beginning of this year, MG has continuously expanded its dealerships nationwide, showing that MG is taking steps to increase its presence in Vietnam, which is one of the stepping stones to be able to complete the goal selling 25,000 vehicles from now to 2025 that SAIC and SAIC Vietnam leaders had set previously.
