Total import-export value exceeds 647 billion USD

According to data from the General Department of Customs, the country's total import-export value in the first 10 months of 2024 reached $647.91 billion, marking a 15.8% increase, equivalent to an additional $88.61 billion.

Total import-export value exceeds 647 billion USD

On November 15, the latest preliminary statistics from the General Department of Customs showed that the total import-export value of Vietnam's goods in the second half of October 2024 (from October 16 to October 31, 2024) reached 37.02 billion USD, an increase of 16% (equivalent to an increase of 5.09 billion USD) compared to the first half of October 2024 (from October 1 to October 15, 2024).

The results achieved in the second half of October 2024 brought the total import-export value of the country in the first 10 months of 2024 to 647.91 billion USD, an increase of 15.8% (equivalent to an increase of 88.61 billion USD) compared to the same period last year. Of this, the total import-export value of foreign direct investment (FDI) enterprises in the first 10 months of 2024 reached 438.83 billion USD, an increase of 14.2% (equivalent to an increase of 54.55 billion USD) compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, the total import-export value of domestic enterprises reached 209.08 billion USD, an increase of 19.5% (equivalent to an increase of 34.07 billion USD) compared to the same period last year.

In the second half of October 2024, the total export value of Vietnam's goods reached 19.39 billion USD, an increase of 20% (equivalent to an increase of 3.24 billion USD) compared to the previous period. The export value rose across several key commodity groups:

  • Computers, electronic products, and components: increased by 806 million USD (31.7%);
  • Machinery, equipment, tools, and spare parts: increased by 521 million USD (22.1%);
  • Mobile phones and components: increased by 494 million USD (24.1%);
  • Textiles: increased by 217 million USD (14.5%);
  • Footwear: increased by 194 million USD (21.1%);
  • Wood and wood products: increased by 118 million USD (16.7%).

As a result, in the first 10 months of 2024, Vietnam's total export value reached 335.63 billion USD, an increase of 14.9% (equivalent to an increase of 43.58 billion USD) compared to the same period last year.

Statistics from the General Department of Customs also revealed that the export value of goods from FDI enterprises in the second half of October 2024 reached 13.83 billion USD, an increase of 21.2% (equivalent to an increase of 2.42 billion USD) compared to the previous period. This brought the total export value of this group in the first 10 months of 2024 to 240.13 billion USD, an increase of 12.9% (equivalent to an increase of 27.5 billion USD) compared to the same period last year, accounting for 71.5% of the country's total export value.

The total import value of goods into Vietnam in the second half of October 2024 reached 17.63 billion USD, an increase of 11.8% (equivalent to an increase of 1.86 billion USD) compared to the previous period. In the first 10 months of 2024, the total import value of the country reached 312.28 billion USD, an increase of 16.8% (equivalent to an increase of 45.03 billion USD) compared to the same period last year.
