Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin: Russia places great importance on expanding ties between Vietnamese and Russian localities and businesses

On the afternoon of January 14, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, who was on an official visit to Vietnam from January 14 to 15 at the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. This visit marks the beginning of a series of activities celebrating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Russia.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed his pleasure at this meaningful visit, underscoring the importance of effectively implementing recent high-level agreements. He also congratulated Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Prime Minister Mishustin on the success of their talks.

Chairman Tran Thanh Man affirmed that Vietnam deeply values the support and assistance of the Russian people in its past struggle for independence and reunification and in its current development endeavors. He stressed that Vietnam regards Russia as one of its most important partners in foreign policy and highly appreciates Russia's significant achievements over the past two decades, particularly under the leadership of President Vladimir Putin and the Russian government.  

Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin expressed his gratitude for Vietnam’s warm reception and conveyed greetings from President Putin and other senior Russian leaders. He emphasized that the Russian Federation prioritizes its Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam and aspires to enhance cooperation across all areas, particularly between localities and enterprises of the two nations.  

During the meeting, both sides acknowledged that political and diplomatic relations continue to strengthen with high mutual trust. Economic and trade cooperation has shown dynamic growth, while other fields such as science and technology, culture, education, and tourism have also achieved notable progress.  

Strengthening parliamentary and multilateral cooperation 

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man highlighted that Vietnam’s National Assembly collaborates closely with the Russian Federation Council and State Duma in bilateral and multilateral frameworks. The two sides have effectively maintained the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee mechanism and are prepared to enhance high-level exchanges, including plans to welcome the Chairman of the Russian State Duma to Vietnam in 2025.  

Vietnam is committed to fostering comprehensive cooperation, particularly in defense-security, military technology, energy, oil, and gas, as well as in economic, cultural, educational, sports, and tourism sectors. Chairman Tran Thanh Man emphasized the pivotal role of the National Assembly in addressing institutional challenges to deepen and enhance the effectiveness of bilateral ties.  

Supporting the Vietnamese community in Russia and regional cooperation  

Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed gratitude for the Russian government’s support of the Vietnamese community in Russia, affirming that this community serves as a bridge of friendship between the two nations.  

Vietnam supports Russia's increased engagement in the Asia-Pacific region, fostering collaboration with ASEAN, and contributing to peace and development in the region. Vietnam also advocates resolving disputes in the South China Sea based on international law.  

Charting the future of Vietnam-Russia relations  

The two sides agreed there remains considerable potential for advancing cooperation and emphasized the need for concrete measures to boost bilateral trade. Chairman Tran Thanh Man reaffirmed that Vietnam’s National Assembly will continue to support and work alongside the Vietnamese and Russian governments to implement agreements, fostering mutual benefits for the two nations and contributing to peace and stability in the region and the world.
