With the newly increased capital, the investor plans to construct a fourth factory spanning 1.4 ha and install supplementary machinery, including PCB production lines.
According to the latest investment registration certificate issued by the Hanoi Industrial and Export Processing Zones Authority, Meiko Electronics Vietnam Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Japan-based Meiko Electronics, has increased its investment in its Hanoi project by 300 million USD.
This adjustment raises the total capital of the project, titled “Factory for designing, manufacturing, and assembling various types of printed circuit boards (PCB), assembling electronic components onto PCBs, and producing complete electronic products (MKVC),” to 800 million USD.
Meiko Electronics’ Hanoi project began operations in 2007 with an initial investment of 300 million USD. By 2021, the total capital had risen to 500 million USD.
Located in the Thach That – Quoc Oai Industrial Zone, Phung Xa Commune, Thach That District, Hanoi, the project will now include the construction of Factory No. 4, covering an area of 1.4 ha. It will also introduce new machinery and equipment, including PCB production lines, and build environmental protection facilities to accommodate the project’s expansion, as outlined in its Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report.
The production upgrades will increase the capacity of PCB (PTH) products from 1.2 million m² annually to 2.16 million m². PCB (B/U) product capacity will rise from 720,000 m² per year to 1.32 million m², while copper blanks (Cu) production will increase from 530 tons to 960 tons annually. The project will also introduce new activities, including manufacturing, processing, and assembling various industrial machinery and automation equipment, with a capacity of 1,000 units per year.
However, the factory will reduce its output of FPC products from 960,000 m² annually to 540,000 m².
Currently, the factory has a production capacity of 2.2 billion units of complete electronic products (EMS) and 500 ventilators per year.
All new machinery and equipment for the expansion phase will be 100% newly manufactured and imported from Japan, South Korea, and China.
Electricity demand for the project is expected to increase from 228.48 million kWh annually to 360 million kWh.
As of December 2023, the project employed 5,187 workers. Following the expansion, the workforce is expected to grow to 5,687 employees.
In April 2024, Meiko Electronics commenced construction of a PCB manufacturing plant in Hoa Binh, with an investment of approximately 200 million USD in the Bo Trai Song Da Industrial Zone. This marks Meiko’s fifth project in Vietnam, with the total investment expected to rise to 500 million USD after the completion of a second factory.
Additionally, Meiko Electronics operates an electronic components manufacturing plant in the Phuc Dien Industrial Zone, Hai Duong, with a monthly production capacity of 1.5 million units.
