Nokia has announced that it will be establishing a production facility in Vietnam to keep up with the growing demand for network equipment.
Specifically, in the statement made by Nokia on June 11, the company said that it will produce a product portfolio of the AirScale series, which includes the latest generation of Massive MIMO AirScale radio equipment. Accordingly, Nokia will cooperate with the Foxconn factory in Bac Giang to produce these products. Production is scheduled to commence in July, with a plan to ramp up production in September 2024.
This move is expected to create more jobs and bring new economic opportunities to Vietnamese companies, and the project also aims to cut carbon emissions.
"The project will start in July and increase production from September onwards," Nokia said.
According to the Finnish telecommunications equipment company, products made in Vietnam will be sold in both domestic and international markets. Besides, Nokia said it has also participated in 5G projects of telecommunications service providers. Production in Vietnam will contribute to accelerating the deployment of 5G networks.
"Cooperation with Foxconn to produce AirScale products will help us meet customer needs, improve cost efficiency, and demonstrate our commitment to continuously optimize production, distribution and supplier network activities in the region," said Mr. Ruben Flores, General Director of Nokia Vietnam.
According to a representative of Foxconn, within 17 years of operation in Vietnam, the expansion of cooperation with Nokia to produce 5G products has highlighted Vietnam's role as a favorite production destination.
Previously, during a visit to Vietnam in March this year, Nokia Global CEO Pekka Lundmark said that he always responded to the Vietnamese Government's policy on domestic equipment production. Recently, there have been many Nokia network devices that are "made in Vietnam" products such as 5G base stations, and FTTH fixed broadband devices connecting to households.
