India wants to become a global semiconductor power

According to Mr Ashwini Vaishnaw, Indian Minister of Information Technology, the chip manufacturing industry is a very complex market. The global value chain as well as the global supply chain are extremely complex in the current context. "India will enter the top 5 semiconductor manufacturing countries in the world in the next 5 years," emphasized Mr. Vaishnaw.

In addition, Mr. Vaishnaw affirmed that India is a "reliable value chain partner" for electronics manufacturers, including industrial electronics and defense, because most fields require semiconductors. "The Indian government is currently planning to invest $21 billion in this industry," said the Indian Minister of Information Technology.

Previously, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the inauguration ceremony of three semiconductor factories, including a joint venture factory between Tata Electronics and Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Group of Taiwan.

On March 14, American semiconductor manufacturing corporation Qualcomm opened a new chip design center in Chennai city (India).

In November 2023, Foxconn Corporation of Taiwan announced plans to invest more than 1.5 billion USD in India to meet the group's operational needs. Foxconn Chairman Young Liu affirmed that with the potential market size, the company's investment of several billion dollars in India is just the beginning.

China invents hydrogen production equipment

Chinese scientists have just created a high-performance ion exchange membrane and electrode system installed at river estuaries to capture osmotic energy and promote hydrogen production.

According to the research, this integrated device showed a rapid and stable production rate of alkaline hydrogen for more than 12 days under artificial salinity.

Researchers say this invention opens up a roadmap for producing hydrogen through renewable energy sources in the future. Hydrogen is a clean fuel that is expected to be a promising solution to reduce carbon emissions in the energy industry, towards a more sustainable future.

Previously, at the end of August 2023, Sinopec Group announced that China's largest photovoltaic-based hydrogen production project in the world was officially put into operation.

The hydrogen project is part of Sinopec's larger mission to peak carbon emissions before 2030, reaching carbon neutrality by 2050. This goal is 10 years earlier than the Chinese government's 2060 threshold. The new hydrogen facility is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 485,000 tons per year, marking a breakthrough in China's efforts to cut emissions.
